Auburn, AL - From philosophy to forestry and political science to education, Auburn recognized outstanding achievements by faculty members across the University at its annual Faculty Awards Ceremony on November 9. More than 150 faculty members, administrators and guests attended the event held at the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center.
Hosted by the Office of the Provost, the ceremony recognized 20 faculty members who have profoundly impacted Auburn’s campus through their teaching, mentorship, and ability to inspire excellence while advancing research and scholarship and serving Alabama’s communities through meaningful outreach work.
Receiving Auburn’s top awards were Eric Marcus, professor in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts; Daowei Zhang, Alumni Professor and George W. Peake Jr. Professor of Forest Economics and Policy in the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment; Adrienne Duke-Marks, associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science in the College of Human Sciences and specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System; Steven Brown, Professor and Morris Savage Endowed Chair in the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts; and Sheri Thornburg-Brock, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology in the College of Education.
Trustee Clark Sahlie opened the ceremony by citing the university’s recent increase in national rankings and record enrollment and crediting the faculty with fostering a campus culture that promotes excellence and offers an extraordinary academic experience.
“As I meet with alumni, industry leaders, and citizens across the state, I am always humbled and impressed by the constant feedback I hear about an Auburn faculty member who helped a student find their passion, offered guidance or support to an organization, or uplifted an entire community through the contributions of their time and talents,” Sahlie said.
Nominated by faculty, staff, students and alumni and selected by various award committees, recipients were presented with custom awards created by celebrated artist and Auburn graduate Cal Breed, owner of Orbix Hot Glass.
Sponsors of the evening’s awards included the Auburn Alumni Association, Office of Research and Economic Development, University Outreach, and distinguished alumni Dr. Gerald and Mrs. Emily Leischuck.
“Auburn faculty are synonymous with excellence, and it is always a privilege to celebrate faculty excellence across your many roles,” said President Christopher B. Roberts. “I speak for our entire university when I say that I am grateful for the work you do every single day.”
